A deeply passionate liner shipping expert, Alan Murphy has 20+ years of experience in container shipping research and analysis, providing insight and intelligence to a broad range of stakeholders in the logistics community, through quantitative research, econometric modelling, and database architecture development.
Alan co-founded SeaIntel, now Sea-Intelligence, with industry legend Lars Jensen in January 2011, with an ambition to provide truly exceptional and insightful liner shipping analysis and advisory, always based on a clearly stated and comprehensive methodology. Prior to launching Sea-Intelligence, Alan was Senior Analyst of Maersk Line's Intelligence and Analysis section, at that time the industry’s largest customer of industry analysis, research, and market data. The frustration with poorly sourced back-of-envelope style of analysis often found in this industry, and a lack of comparable, verified benchmarks of liner performance, was the spark that would lead to the launch of Sea-Intelligence, which now covers Research & Analysis, Data Services, and Advisory Services.
Alan has a degree in business economics, and prior to joining Maersk in 2004, he worked as a Research Analyst, at the Dept. of Finance at the Copenhagen Business School. Alan is fluent in seven primary programming languages and has developed everything from simple business apps to full-stack enterprise database systems.
Privately, Alan is married to a Microbiology PhD Fellow, clearly outranking him on the nerd-meter, and they have two beautiful and troublemaking boys of 8 and 4 years. Alan is based in Singapoe
